Climate change is one of the most devastating environmental challenges that the world has ever faced. Heatwaves, storms, melting glaciers, warming oceans, and rising sea levels can hurt animal species, ruin their habitats, and disrupt people's livelihoods and societies. As a result of adverse climate change, humans and wildlife face new survival challenges. The Swiss Re Institute warns that if global temperature rises by 3.2 degrees Celsius, climate change might wipe off up to 18% of global GDP by 2050.
Recently, A-76, the world's largest iceberg, calved off from the Filchner-Ronne ice shelf in Antarctica. If it melts, it will increase the sea level drastically. On an average, sea levels have risen around 9 inches since 1880. Most of these rises are attributable to the melting iceberg in Antarctica and Greenland, as reported by Bloomberg. A report by the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has predicted that 12 coastal cities in India could be nearly 3 feet underwater by the century's end.
Today, almost all parts of the earth, whether Antarctica, the Arctic, or Asia, are affected by climate change and global warming. The average air temperature in the Arctic has increased by around 5 ° Celsius over the last few years. There will be no ice sheets left in the Arctic after a few decades, severely impacting species that exist there. E.g., Polar bears are losing their habitat now in the Arctic region and snow leopards in the Himalayas. The warming in the Himalayas is 3 times the global average.
We are the last generation capable of averting this climate crisis, and it is high time to do so. To begin, we need to think of a way to reduce carbon emissions dramatically and find ways to mitigate the impact of unavoidable climate consequences.
There are ways to reduce carbon emissions like recycling waste, reforestation, etc. But the most significant impact you can create is by switching to Renewable Energy. In this time of crisis, all concerned parties need to come together to combat these changes. More specifically, it is the need of the hour for all businesses or industries worldwide to choose Green Energy solutions. Businesses can join RE 100, a global initiative bringing the world’s most influential companies under one umbrella that are committed to procuring 100% renewable electricity. They need to set a target for the same; otherwise, it would be too late. Also, there is an incentive attached to doing so as Renewable Energy has become significantly cheaper on an LCoE (Levelized Cost of Energy) basis compared to conventional brown power, which can lead to huge savings that directly impact your company’s bottom line. The halo effect of your shift to sustainable growth will not go unnoticed by your customers, employees, and stakeholders.
Vibrant Energy is on a mission to help our customers grow their business sustainably by switching to renewable energy and helping them on their journey to a 100% Clean Energy portfolio. Do join us on our journey to help mitigate climate change and take meaningful steps to restore our environment.
